MIddle Preclassic Pottery (Tomasic 2008)

Pottery is the most abundant artifact at archaeological sites in the Maya area. Through pottery analysis ceramicists inform research related to chronology, production and exchange, sociopolitical and economic organization, religion and ideology, and everyday practices. In this talk I’ll introduce the fundamentals of Maya pottery studies by presenting terminology used in Maya pottery classification and analysis, and synthesizing recent research on production and exchange.
